"and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed." Another way to say ordained her is appointed.
I personally believe an explanation can be made like this: All of the Gentiles that the Holy Spirit drew accepted Christ that day. There wasn't a single Gentile that day that the Holy Spirit didn't speak to that rejected the Gospel message. They all believed that day. The Holy Spirit ordained the same day they believed.
John 6:44- No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
No one can get save if he is not drawn by God.
John 12:32- And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
When we lift up Jesus Christ to men, he will draw all of them unto Him. That doesn't mean that all men will accept Him though.
Hebrews 10:39- But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
There are some that the Holy Spirit draws but instead of believing the draw back unto perdition. Those that don't draw back but believe do it to the saving of their soul.
James 4:8- Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
God draws us but we have to draw back to Him. It is our decision. The picture of the prodical son is a perfect example. The son knew he could go home at any time and when he decided to, the father came to him.
